1st XV update

Oban Lorne are back in action this Saturday with their penultimate league game of the season at home to league strugglers Bishopton RFC.

The sides met only last month just across the Erskine Bridge where Oban recorded a comfortable 36-11 victory over the side who are competing in West Division 2 after their promotion last season from Division 3.

Saturdays game, on paper should be another comfortable win for Oban who have secured second place in the league following a poor loss off form by both Uddingston and Strathaven combined with a recent winning run from the men in Green.

Bishopton though have it all to play for as they look to avoid the lower reaches of the league going into the closing stages of the season as bottom placed Cumbernauld have hit a good run of form pressurising the lower half of the table.

West Regional Clubs voted in favour of 10 team leagues at last Wednesdays league reconstruction meeting meaning Oban Lorne will still compete in West Division 2 next season along with the eight best placed teams in the Division along with the teams placed 11th and 12th in Division 1. At the moment this looks to be two clubs from Dalziel, Cumnock and Cambuslang who occupy the last three places currently.

Next seasons setup should provide Oban Lorne with a competitive set of fixtures against  a good quality of opposition. Remaining in Division 2, the clubs preferred choice for the time being will allow Head Coach Andrew Johnston another season of building his young team towards the eventual aim of securing promotion to Division 1.

The 1ST XV have made huge strides forward this season after their relegation and have fought hard to produce a faster and more attack minded style of play which has seen a higher try scoring tally than in previous seasons.

Saturdays game kicks off at 3pm (TBC) at Glencruitten. The clubhouse will be open all day for the Super Saturday Six Nations fixtures including Scotland’s Calcutta Cup Clash at Twickenham which kicks off at 5pm.

Oban Lornes last league game of the season will be on Saturday 23rd of March and Paisley visit Glencruitten.
